For past 2 weeks I’ve been playing around with Firefox 2 - Beta 1 & Beta 2. Undoubtly it is a good step forward compared to 1.5.x.x in every way. Be it speed, memory useage, features, solidity [crashed just twice].
But now I’ve finally decided to take a step a back to installing Firefox 1.5.x.x, because I’ve been spoiled by Firefox Extension so much that I just can’t live without them anymore. Though slowly and steadily the respective extension owners are porting their their extensions to FF2, but out of 12 extensions I use only 3 had made the FF3 cut. So for next few days, back to the long-extension-name.

[...] I’ve recently read in blog entry (taking a step backward) about folks who love the new functionality of Firefox 2.0b1/2, but who can’t live without their favorite extensions from 1.5.0.X which are not yet compatible in Firefox 2.0b1/2. Simple solution is the Nightly Tester Tool extension. This extension once installed will allow you to ‘make compatible’ most extensions that currently do not work in (or were never designed for) a newer version of Firefox (also works for Thunderbird). Hmm, I had shifted to Firefox 2 but I hated it coz of the exact same reason. Man, why can’t the extensions port? Well I understand about the non-standardized framework calls and all, but hey there are people in need here :-D!!

I been using Firefox Beta 2 for a good week or so now. Get the Nightly Testers Tools extension for Firefox 2.0 and it will allow you to force those extensions that are not working yet made for 2.0, to work on 2.0. The only troubles I had was with Download Manger Tweak caused my Options windows to break and Tabbrowser Preferences just doesn’t function correctly.

Whoops that should be ‘Nightly TESTER Tool’, not testers.
