Google acquires Writely

Yeah … I was on my usual visit to Mars that I came to know about Writely being acquired by Google today. It’s damn 4 days old news now. Anyways, as per Writely’s blog, it does not make any difference to existing users:

Our #1 priority is to maintain (and improve) the reliability, privacy and security of the Writely service for our current users.

Well, there goes another product in “Forever Beta” company.

    I always seem to find out about things right after they’ve “CLOSED registrations.” Ugh…or “beta accounts are no longer offered” because I didn’t get early adoption…

    This is upsetting.

    distinctive, that has happened with me as well , though not quiet often. If you are really interested in checking out Writely, I’ll let you know as soon as they’ll start accepting registration.

    I’ve used Writely for several personal projects, and like it.
    I’ve kept my photos on FLickr for quite a while now, and when it was bought by Yahoo I thought things got better.
    Is it too much to hope for that the same will happen with the Google/Writely bond?
    I found your blog on BlogExplosion and I like your style!

    Frances, to tell you the truth I really don’t know how Writely/Google bond will come out. No doubts that services google provide are one of the best, but those are more or less their in-house development.

    I have not seen how google will manage services that they have acquired. Since I have not used Flickr too much so I can’t comment about it’s amalgamation with yahoo.
